Coloring-book Candy-land religion and politics… including thumb-suck theology and gummy-bear government. Government: from the Greek kubernan ‘to steer.’ And anybody who thinks the stuffed suit hair-helmet big chin blowhard Potemkin puppet show is steering anything… should go back in the closet and shake hands with Santa Claus.
So let’s hit the road like Mr. Toad and get ready for some fun, adventure and excitement. Dead-zone oceans, melting icecaps and global climate instability? Why, that’s all communist-socialist propaganda to undermine bible-believing christian family values, states’ rights, lower taxes and private property. How about another nice war or two or three? That’s entertainment! It’s red and blue team, shirts and skins, us and them… all on TV just like sportsball! Distractions, just like a magician’s cloak, turned capitalism into looting. Punch and Judy politic keeps us rooting… for the Home Team.
Isn’t that a scream? Remember the flapping flags and yellow ribbons yesteryear of 2003? How has that turned out so far for you and me? Do we trust the Government? Do we trust Facebook? Do we trust God? Do we trust the Machine? Do we have any idea what each of these words mean? Ask Santa to introduce us to his little rabbit pal who delivers colored eggs overnight in a basket. He can explain why ISIS is more of a threat than climate change. Those in awe of Santa need Government, Facebook, God and the Machine. They are more real than rain.
Rain falls on both the just and the unjust no matter what we think caused it. Rain simply doesn’t care. Like evolution. Like physics. We can fill our chants with lollipop dance and sportsball balloons and it will not alter the transition to the inevitable one tittle or jot. The future is going to be Green whether we like it or not… whether it’s grass growing on the ruins or Permaculture. Capital-letter Machine is awake and sentient… in a machine sort of way… and it’s hardly more complicated than a carburetor. Just like we are merely monkeys with shoes.
Bunny-in-Chief will not bring you relief because it’s just another sock-puppet… and red or blue does not matter much to those who wrote the PNAC script, the hired hand or the hurdy-gurdy man. No magic basket is coming from candy land. Atlas can shrug all the bugs in the rug, but there is still a difference between capitalism and looting. Nuance is not a game for ninny newbies who can’t see the difference between an abstract noun and a Hamburger Clown.

Well, I just posted this on facebook. You are a poet, or a prose-poet, and you will appeal to those who agree. I wonder if you can write a persuasive piece that will convince those who don’t. It’s the challenge we face. You have always been good at explaining things — this will be important. Yeah, yeah, the earth doesn’t “care” what we “do”. But some of us care, and I think you do also. here’s a piece of his speech, which he was too frail to give himself and had someone else read for him – how ’bout that?:
“…. I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of Government but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered, and believe farther that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in Despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic Government, being incapable of any other. I doubt too whether any other Convention we can obtain, may be able to make a better Constitution. For when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men, all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an assembly can a perfect production be expected? It therefore astonishes me, Sir, to find this system approaching so near to perfection as it does; and I think it will astonish our enemies, who are waiting with confidence to hear that our councils are confounded like those of the Builders of Babel; and that our States are on the point of separation, only to meet hereafter for the purpose of cutting one another’s throats. Thus I consent, Sir, to this Constitution because I expect no better, and because I am not sure, that it is not the best. The opinions I have had of its errors, I sacrifice to the public good. I have never whispered a syllable of them abroad. Within these walls they were born, and here they shall die.”
